Herbal Medicine and Naturopathy

What is Herbal Medicine and Naturopathy?

Western Herbal Medicine goes as far back as Hippocrates in 450 BCE. Hippocrates says "Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food".

In the practice of Herbal Medicine, we use the therapeutic properties of plants to aid the body with its healing processes. Herbs are made up of complex constituents, which work together within a formula. Every herb has an action, which affects different organs/conditions within the body and each practitioner is trained to prescribe an appropriate herbal formula. Herbs come in the form of tinctures, powders and teas.

A Naturopathic Herbalist, not only uses herbs, but also Bach flower remedies, tissue salts, and nutrition. The naturopathic approach is to treat the person as a whole; which includes not only the physical, but also the mental and emotional, to create balance within the body. The aim is to improve health and create a sense of wellbeing.

Herbs can be used to help support a variety of health problems, which may include:
• Digestive problems
• Immunity
• Asthma
• Allergies
• Fertility
• Menopausal
• High blood pressure
• Skin issues
• Sleep problems
• Low energy

During the first consultation a detailed history will be taken, which includes your current issue, medical history, medications, diet and lifestyle.
