Reiki
What is Reiki and how can it help me?
Reiki is a Japanese system of self-healing and is used to promote wellbeing; pronounced ray-key, it means 'universal life energy'. Reiki can be used as a stand-alone therapy, or in conjunction with other disciplines and is suitable for anyone who is stressed and in need of emotional, physical or energetic refreshment.
It was developed in the early 20th century by a Japanese monk called Dr Mikao Usui. Using energy principles similar to those used in practices such as meditation or Tai Chi, Reiki looks to create a deep sense of relaxation and peace. It is profoundly powerful, yet very gentle.
Reiki has been found to be supportive in those people with a range of different problems, and illnesses including;
- emotional issues
- stress
- anxiety
- worry and depression
- arthritis and general aches and pains
- insomnia and other sleeping difficulties
- post-operative recovery
What to expect in an appointment?
Initial sessions will include a consultation to gather information about your health and what you expect to achieve from coming along. Progress is reviewed after the first session and subsequent appointments can be planned if it is felt necessary and/or appropriate.
Reiki sessions take place with the client fully clothed whilst lying on a couch, or seated in a comfortable position. The practitioner then places their hands gently on or just above your body in a sequence of positions. You may experience heat, tingling or simply a deep sense of relaxation.
