Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture and how can it help me?

We offer Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in Salisbury at our Centre; it based on ancient principles and forms the basis of a healthcare system that go back nearly two thousand years.  It is a healing therapy where fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body to alleviate various symptoms or conditions.  These can be both physical symptoms (such as muscle and joint pain) as well as emotional problems (stress, low mood, anxiety, addiction etc.).

In fact, what makes the Traditional system of Acupuncture so unique is that it views the body as a whole and doesn't need to separate out physical pain from emotional distress.  Traditional Acupuncturists use subtle diagnostic methods, which have been developed and refined over the centuries.  The individual is always the focus and is unique; 2 people with the same symptoms, may well receive different Acupuncture treatments.

How big are the needles?

Acupuncture needles are not like needles that are used for injections, those needles have to be hollow; whereas Acupuncture needles are much finer and solid. This makes them much less painful than an injection. Therefore, when the needles are inserted, most people only feel a dull ache, or tingling sensation.

The needles are left in place for around twenty minutes. During this time, as well as after the session, you may feel relaxed and have a general sense of well-being.
